The two opener batsmen of the Indian team got settled cheaply. Shikhar Dhawan made only six runs on six balls while captain Rohit Sharma got bowled by three runs off Ocean Thomas. Rishabh Pant could not show anything special in batting in the middle order, and making a run and going for a run.

After this, KL Rahul made a small partnership with Dinesh Karthik but Rahul tried to put a big shot to keep the score of 16 runs in the boundary. Dinesh Karthik batted till the end and scored 31 runs in 34 balls while Krunal Pandya, playing his debut match, played an unbeaten 21 runs in nine balls.

The openers were run out on the score of 14 in the 14 overs, while Shimron Heitmeyer (10) and Kieron Pollard (14) were dismissed by Jaspreet Bumrah and Krunal Pandya.

After this, Kuldeep Yadav screwed himself up and hit three wickets and broke the backbone of the West Indies batting order. Yadav showed the way for the pavilion to Darren Bravo (5), Rovman Powell (4) and captain Carlos Brathwaite (4).

Khalil Ahmed, playing his first T20 match against India, Fabien Elan, who appeared in the International T20, made himself a victim of his personal score of 27.
