New Delhi: FSSAI reported that trans fat is a kind of unsaturated fatty acid. It is found in very small amounts in nature. By the way, there is no harm to it. But, when it is used in food, it becomes like a poison.

The trans fat found in the food oil is a slow poison, which affects the many parts of the body, including the heart and kidney, causing death. On Friday, the Indian Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) on the occasion of launching a public awareness campaign on Trans Fat. Experts reported that trans fat is a kind of unsaturated fatty acid (unsaturated fatty acids). It is found in very small amounts in nature. By the way, there is no harm to it. But, when it is used in food, it becomes like a poison.

FSSAI CEO Dr. Pawan Agarwal said that around half a million people die every year in the world due to heart disease due to trans fat. That’s why the World Health Organization has set a goal to liberate the world from trans fat by 2022. He said, “In India, 60,000 people die every year and we are trying to achieve this goal before the time of the World Health Organization.”

FSSAI started a new mass media campaign on Friday on the loss of trans fat. This campaign has been named ‘Heart Attack Revival’. This includes 30-second public service announcement (PSA) besides public awareness through billboards and social media. An expert said that trans fat is prepared by adding hydrogen in liquid vegetable oil to make it more solid and increase the shelf life of foods. Trans Fat is extensively found in vegetable oils, artificial butter, and bakery food products.

Dr. Agrawal said that FSSAI is committed to reducing the transitional fatty acids, which are industrially prepared by the year 2022, less than 2%. This campaign has been prepared by specialists of Vital Strategies. Dr. Nandita Murukuttla of Vital Strategies said, “Trans fat does not have any benefit to the health and in India, it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and other related health problems.”
